My bike was stolen — what now?

The 4 things to do today

1. Declare the bike stolen with your marking operator (Bicycode or similar) so its status flips to “stolen” in the FNUCI, the French national bike registry.
2. File a plainte (a formal police complaint — that is the word to use), online or at a commissariat (police station). Bring the marking code and the purchase invoice if you have them.
3. Tell your assurance habitation (home insurance) — French home insurance covers bikes more often than people realise.
4. Keep an eye on second-hand listings yourself, and report the theft here.
